Have You Seen This? SK8 Tile

For the skate boarder in your life...
Photo: Art of Board
Art of Board tiles are hand cut from 100% recycled skate decks and sold by the square foot. Every scratch, scrape and gouge is kept in tact – making them truly original. Each tile has its own story. They’re alive with texture, shape and color. Together, they bring that story to life in every space they inhabit – creating a vibrant visual experience in the home, retail or commercial environment.

I wouldn't necessarily use these tiles in my home, but I love the idea of using them in a skate shop or certain retail spaces.
I really do like the creativity of turning something that was broken and destined for the dump into a useful design element.
What do you think?

DIY Side Table Contest--WIN A TABLE TOP FROM MGS BY DESIGN!

We are so excited to announce our DIY Table Contest!

Be creative!

To kick start your ideas, here are a couple of tables we've done...
This first one is actually my own table.  I found the  Saarinen Low Oval Coffee Table replica base through my local classifieds for $65.00.  I put a coat of spray paint on it to freshen it up.  We had a remnant of Calacatta Gold marble that I had cut to size and it's like new!
I was going to sell it, but I love it so much that I don't know if I'll ever part with it.  :)

This second table was one we did a couple of years ago.  The client brought in her not-so-pretty base that she'd found at a thrift store and we helped her find a remnant of Carrara marble to go on top.
When she brought the base back in after she'd painted it I about died.  HUGE transformation!  It turned out so cute!  You can read more about it here.

Marble and Granite for Furniture Projects

A lot of people think "Kitchens and baths" when they think of granite and marble tops, but did you know that a stone top can be added to just about any piece of furniture? Upcycled and DIY furniture is hugely popular right now, and amazing things can happen when you add custom fabricated stone to your projects.  Your local stone fabricator (Hey! That's us!) usually has a remnant or "bone yard" with small pieces of slab perfect for projects like this. We've done some before and have several in the works right now, which is what got me thinking about this post.

This is an adorable side table that we put a marble top on for a customer's DIY project, and it turned out great.

Here are a few other ideas to get your creative juices flowing.  We have several remnants in our yard right now and we would love to help you pick the perfect piece for your next furniture restoration project.  I will admit that seeing these photos while researching for this post started my gears turning in a big way!
