GIVE US FEEDBACK

So this is my first official post on this blog. I almost feel like I should not ruin a good thing because Stephanie does such a great job with finding unique items. I find myself looking forward to what is posted because I have learned so much already. Thanks Stephanie for your time and effort. It would be nice to get some feedback from our readers about the stuff that has been posed thus far.

I am cheating a little on this post because I am not going to say much but rather ask a question to our readers. Now I

know we are new to the blog world but I hope you will put give some input. I am more of a straight forward type of guy. I want people to know the truth

about our industry, good or bad. I believe strongly that if we educate the consumer that they can make better decision. The smarter the consumer is the higher the standard of perfor

mance will be for the stone industry and we welcome the higher standard. That standard has been lowered recently with the struggling economy. Unfortunately there has been a surge of companies cutting corners to maintain profits. I understand the need to survive but what really has me upset is that they still claim to the consumer that they operate at that same higher standard with all the same techniques and products as they used before when it is not true. Then there are those that never used good products or methods from the beginning. Both of these types of companies say in the same breath, we are the best and our prices our the lowest. After being in the stone industry for a while

I can tell you, IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO BE BOTH. Going further, if you are the best then you should have pride in your craft and earn more for it than people who are not as skilled as you. If you are the best then act like it. I do not think Lebron James or Kobe Bryant take the minimum salary in the NBA. So, I know I said I was not going to say anything. In fact, I could write a novel on this topic but I will stop here. What I want to ask the readers/consumers is this question.

What do you want to know about most when looking to put a granite or a marble or a quartz or any countertop in your home or office, what is it that matters the most to you? Is it, durability, style, maintenance, price, company history, uniqueness of color, comparisons to other products, grouping, the remodeling process and so on. We are desperately trying to educate and in order to do that effectively we need to know what it is that you are unclear about, confused or just wanting to learn about. The more you know the better decisions you can make to fit your style needs.

We look forward to hearing from you our client/readers!

The Who's Who of Granite Guru's

I don't follow to many blogs let alone agree to attribute to any, but with the long history I have with the Granite Gurus at MGS By Design, I just had to write something good about these guys.

They are truly experts in the crazy world of stone, marble, quartz and anything else you can dig out of the center on the earth and sit on a cabinet.

I have been using these guys exclusively for the past 7 years on all my custom projects, including 5 Utah Valley Parade Homes, and 2 award winning projects we did in 2004, and 2007. the granites, marbles, and quartz we used in these homes were an integral part in our success.

I will post some pictures of those projects once I can find them on my computer, so look for a re post of this later today with the pictures.

Ok so why do I stick my neck out and endorse these guys? Well seven years and counting with excellent customer service, these guys get it. I can send my clients over to meet with a member of the sales staff like BJ he is awesome and will make sure that my clients are taken care of. I don't have to worry about him up selling, or taking advantage of my clients. He and the others on the sales staff care about one thing.....making the client happy.

They also have a great facility which has just about every machine you can use to cut and shape any size of granite. That translates into options. It allows customers to dream up crazy patterns and edge details to personalize their counter tops. They even have a name your own edge program. If you can think it up they can create it. Awesome.

Well need I say more....oh ya they are on time and use in house installers, in fact most the time the same guys who fabricate will do the install, making sure the project is done right from template to install.

Thanks MGS By Design

Lapidus-Chiseled Edge Detail

Lapidus is a really pretty & popular granite color....especially here in Utah!
BJ & I actually both have Lapidus in our own kitchens. We'll have to show you photos of our own homes one of these days.
Anyway, I just wanted to show off this edge detail. It's called the Chiseled edge detail. It is also very popular here in Utah. It is generally used in more rustic & mountain designed homes. Though it does add a fun texture that some people have even used in more contemporary design.

At MGS by Design we take special care with the Chiseled edge to give it the rough look without the rough feel, we don't want it to snag your sweater!
